Ibiden commits to providing Apple manufacturing with renewable energy

Ibiden, a Japanese electronics company, has announced that it will help Apple embrace clean power in Japan. The company has become the first in the country to pledge that it will power all of Apple’s Japanese manufacturing efforts with renewable energy. This marks a significant step forward in Apple’s continued efforts to make use of clean energy in order to become more environmentally friendly and reduce its reliance on fossil-fuels. Apples moves to based its manufacturing in Japan on renewable energy may indicate how the company aims to renovate its overall supply chain in the future.

Ibiden will be investing in more than 20 clean power projects in Japan

In order to provide Apple with the renewable energy it needs, Ibiden will be investing in more than 20 clean power projects in Japan. One of these projects is a large-scale floating solar energy farm. The solar farm is the largest of its kind in the country and is designed to sidestep the problem of limited land resources in Japan. Several other renewable energy projects will be supported by Ibiden, but solar power appears to be the most popular option for both Ibiden and Apple.

Apple expects to generate more than 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually by 2018

Apple predicts that it and its manufacturing partners will be generating more than 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours of renewable energy annually by the end of 2018. The vast majority of this electricity will be used to power the manufacture of Apple products. Apple has already invested heavily in renewable energy over the past few years. In the United States, the company is using hydrogen fuel cells to help power one of its primary data centers. The company is also working to expand its use of solar power.

Technology companies are investing more in renewable energy

Apple is currently one of the largest investors in renewable energy in the world. Clean power has become a major priority for the company and Apple expects that solar, in particular, will play a major role in its future. Apple is not alone in this belief, of course, and is joined by several major technology companies in supporting various types of renewable energy.
