The geothermal industry participates in Geothermal Awareness Day in California.

Geothermal Energy - Geothermal Awareness DayYesterday, a variety of activities took place in Sacramento and throughout the state of California for the purpose of recognizing contributions individuals and companies made in 2013 to the development of the geothermal energy industry.

Raising awareness and educating people is another important part of the event.

Geothermal Awareness Day is not just about honoring those who have made advancements via the field of geothermal power, but to also provide geothermal energy information to the public. Geothermal Energy Association (GEA) Executive Director Karl Gawell said, “There is a growing need to educate Californians about the benefits of geothermal energy, and [this] day is a great opportunity to make progress on understanding geothermal power.”

To help Californians and US citizens learn more about the advantages of geothermal energy to the state, GEA has made important information available on its website that can be viewed by the public for free. Examples of some of the free available reports are “Geothermal Basics”, “Geothermal Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions”, November 2012, and “Report on the State of Geothermal In California”, April 2012.

This program was created to recognize the organizations and people who have contributed significantly to growing the geothermal industry. The GEA Honors showcases the developments that are thought to be the most inspirational in the industry.

Gawell stated that it is incredible to watch the success and achievements occurring in the geothermal sector. Innovative technology is breathing life into projects and valuable research is making a sustainable future more possible. “GEA Honors offers a moment to pause and celebrate the positive developments in the geothermal energy industry,” he said

Those interested have until July 7 to enter submissions for GEA Honors. The winners of the program will be revealed on August 5 in Reno, Nevada at the National Geothermal Summit at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino.
