Hyundai has plans for the future of hydrogen transportation

Hyundai has been making waves in the transportation sector recently by becoming the first automaker to begin mass production on a hydrogen-powered vehicle. The South Korean automaker has been touting its hydrogen-powered ix35 as the next step in the ongoing evolution of transportation, but the company has begun showcasing its work on a new model of hydrogen-powered vehicle. The vehicle is currently called the Hyundai Intrado and it exists as a concept of what the future of hydrogen transportation might look like.

New concept offers a glimpse into the future

The Intrado was designed as a Hyundai research and development facility in Germany. Engineers took inspiration from aircraft while designing the concept vehicle. The vehicle is equipped with numerous high-tech gadgets and is rumored to support augmented reality in some way. The vehicle’s lightweight structure ensures that it will be fast and agile, but engineers have opted to use carbon fiber material, which makes the vehicle durable as well.

Intrado to use new fuel cell system

The Intrado will be entirely powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. The fuel cell is expected to be developed by Hyundai itself and will be more powerful than the fuel cell used in the current model of the ix35. Details concerning the actual hydrogen fuel cell system have not yet been released, but more information is expected to come to light during upcoming auto events that are taking place around the world.

Auto industry continues to favor fuel cells

The global auto industry has become enamored with fuel cells. Most major automakers have plans to launch hydrogen-powered vehicles in the coming years and some suggest that fuel cells will replace lithium-ion batteries in the long term. Hyundai has become the first automaker to begin mass production of a hydrogen-powered vehicle, but Honda was the first to bring a fully hydrogen-powered vehicle to the market several years ago.
