Kia has revealed major plans to become a leader in the clean transportation space

South Korean automaker Kia has unveiled plans to become a leading power in the clean transportation space. Within five years, the automaker plans to have launched 11 clean vehicles, which will all be vastly different from one another. Kia is owned by Hyundai, which has already established a major lead in the clean transportation space with its hydrogen fuel vehicle.

Hyundai may aid in Kia’s plans to develop ambitious clean vehicles

Kia’s ambitious plans will require a $10.2 billion in investments, with the majority of this funding expected to come from Hyundai. Kia will also be investing in some clean transportation initiatives in the hopes of improving the transportation space as a whole. Several automakers have seen significant promise in the development of clean vehicles, especially as countries begin to introduce stricter emission standards that require the adoption of clean vehicles.

Kia will launch a new clean vehicle in 2016

The first step for Kia will be to launch what it is calling a Hybrid Utility Vehicle. The vehicle’s name will be the Nitro and is set to debut at some point in 2016. The vehicle will be powered by clean fuel, though Kia has not yet revealed what kind of fuel this will be. The new vehicle will serve as the foundation for Kia’s clean transportation plans, with the company releasing other clean vehicles from 2016 onward.
