New material may boost the efficiency and performance of solar energy systems

The Dow Chemical Company (Dow), a multinational chemical corporation based in the U.S., has announced the introduction of new polyolefin-based technologies that could make solar energy systems more efficient. The company notes that these technologies were developed to address the growing demand for clean energy and may be capable of making solar energy systems a viable tool to meet these demands. The polyolefin-based technology takes the form of a film that Dow calls ENLIGHT.

ENLIGHT designed to address concerns in solar market

The ENLIGHT film is designed for use in solar panels. The film boats of significant electrical insulation properties and can boost the durability of solar panels. Dow researchers believe that the ENLIGHT material may lead to the next generation of solar energy systems as the material makes these systems more efficient and boosts their performance. Dow suggests that the ENLIGHT material is capable of addressing many of the concerns that exist in the current solar energy market.

Solar energy progress hampered by cost and efficiency concerns

Cost and efficiency are two of the greatest concerns in the solar industry today. Solar energy has become a popular option for many countries looking to break away from fossil-fuels, but solar energy systems require significant financial and geographic investments. These systems require large swaths of land to be capable of producing enough electricity to be considered viable. The ENLIGHT material may be able to facilitate the production of more cost effective solar panels that are capable of producing higher levels of electricity.

ENLIGHT could bring more support to solar energy industry

The availability of the ENLIGHT material is expected to be well received by the solar energy industry. As solar technologies become more efficient and affordable, the adoption of these energy systems is likely to increase dramatically. Several of the world’s governments already have plans in place that support solar energy. This new material may give the solar energy industry the momentum it needs to attract more support.
