Plug Power news. has announced its partnership with Energy Vault Holdings, Inc. to provide 8 MW of hydrogen fuel cell stationary power to the city of Calistoga in California Wine Country during emergency situations like wildfires. This move will replace the use of mobile diesel generators which are currently being rented out by Energy Vault to provide backup power during power shutoff events. With this initiative, Plug’s PEM fuel cells will provide clean, more operationally flexible and cost-effective power to the microgrid. This project marks a significant step forward for hydrogen fuel cells in the microgrid market, and it represents the future of utility power backup. The fuel cell technology will serve as the microgrid's stationary backup power generator, and construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2023.
