A large-scale energy storage system that uses gravitational potential energy to store and release electrical power. Water is pumped uphill during low-demand periods and released downhill through turbines during high-demand periods.

Alberta

A pump hydropower storage facility designed to store excess nighttime electrical power by pumping water uphill and release it during peak daytime demand through turbine generators. The facility will utilize two 40-hectare water storage ponds connected by a 5-kilometer pipeline with 500 meters of elevation gain.
