HydrogenFusion is presented by Hydro Ecotech as a maritime technology that captures carbon dioxide from engine exhaust gases, reacts it with water and a chemical mixture, and produces high-purity hydrogen in a closed loop for immediate onboard use.[2] The system is targeted at marine engines, particularly auxiliary engines on ships, and is designed to generate hydrogen on demand while operating without external energy sources such as solar or nuclear, according to company statements.[2]

Hydro Ecotech’s product line includes Liviatan or Liviathan hydrogen generators such as HM 260, HM 770, and S9000, designed to produce hydrogen on demand for different engine categories and sectors, including light vehicles, heavy-duty equipment, and marine engines.[3][5] The HM 260 is positioned for light vehicles needing depollution to pass regulatory inspections, HM 770 targets construction machinery, agricultural equipment, trucks, buses, boats, and generator sets, and the S9000 is described as a larger machine aimed at treating auxiliary marine engines up to high volumetric capacities.[3][5]

Hydro Ecotech markets its core hydrogen injection concept as "HDT" hydrogen, a form of hydrogen produced onboard and injected into the intake or combustion chamber of internal combustion engines to enhance combustion efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and cut emissions.[3] The approach aligns with broader research on diesel–hydrogen dual‑fuel engines, where small hydrogen additions can improve flame propagation and reduce certain pollutants, though overall benefits depend strongly on engine calibration and operating conditions.[3]

A project led by Hydro Ecotech to develop and commercialize the HydrogenFusion onboard CO₂-to-hydrogen system for auxiliary and main marine engines, with early demonstrations and promotion centered around Marseille and the Euromaritime 2026 trade fair.
