Green hydrogen production from renewable energy
Green hydrogen used in the Rolls‑Royce and easyJet engine tests is produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from renewable sources such as wind and tidal energy, so that the overall fuel has very low life‑cycle carbon emissions.[6] For early tests, hydrogen was generated at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney, where surplus power from tidal and wind installations is used to run electrolysers.
