The project includes a 324 megawatt onshore wind farm composed of 45 turbines in the Sunnyside area, dedicated primarily to supplying electricity for hydrogen production rather than feeding directly into the public grid.[10] Onshore wind technology converts the kinetic energy of wind into electricity through large rotor blades connected to generators housed in nacelles atop tall towers, optimized here for high capacity factor and integration with industrial loads.[10]

Hydrogen produced from renewable electricity sources, considered a critical component for hydrogen's long-term credibility as a clean fuel.

Alongside hydrogen production, the project includes a Hydrogenation Plant capable of processing around 60,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year at the existing Come By Chance terminal, likely to produce hydrogen derivatives such as ammonia or other carrier fuels suited for export.[10] Using hydrogenation processes allows the project to convert gaseous hydrogen into chemical forms that are denser, easier to transport by ship, and better aligned with established global commodity markets.[8][10]

Newfoundland and Labrador (Avalon Isthmus, Sunnyside and Come By Chance area)

An integrated wind‑to‑hydrogen development in Newfoundland and Labrador that combines a 324 MW onshore wind farm near Sunnyside with a hydrogen generation plant and a hydrogenation plant at the existing Come By Chance terminal, aimed at producing green hydrogen and derivatives for export.[8][10]

Future low‑carbon energy products produced from renewable electricity via electrolysis and hydrogenation processes at Sunnyside and Come By Chance, intended for export to international markets seeking green fuels and feedstocks.[8][10]
