A wastewater treatment technology using ozone gas as a powerful disinfectant, bleaching, and cleaning agent. The system is predicted to remove 95% of bacteria (including E. coli from fecal coliform) and most viruses, as well as eliminate cosmetics and pharmaceutical drugs from water.

An alternative water purification method that is more widely used than ozonation. According to Professor Ronald Gehr, UV technology may be a considerably less expensive option for Montreal compared to ozonation.

Quebec

A wastewater treatment facility using ozone technology to purify sewage water before discharge into the St. Lawrence River. The facility will treat 2.6 million cubic liters of water daily and remove 95% of bacteria, most viruses, and pharmaceutical and cosmetic contaminants.
