EGS are artificial reservoirs created underground in areas with hot rock, where fluid pathways are enhanced through safe drilling processes to increase connectivity. These pathways allow fluid to flow through the hot rock, bringing heat to the surface for electricity generation.

Horizontal drilling technology adapted from the petroleum industry allows wells to be drilled at angles rather than vertically, enabling better access to geothermal reservoirs and improved heat extraction efficiency.
