The process of separating water into hydrogen and oxygen using energy, in this case, from solar cells.

A single-ion conducting polymer electrolyte discovered by DuPont that selectively permits only hydrogen ions (protons) to migrate between anode and cathode while blocking electrons, preventing short-circuiting.

Platinum particles on porous carbon supports used to catalyze both hydrogen oxidation at the anode and oxygen reduction at the cathode in PEMFC. Currently the most effective catalyst but prohibitively expensive for commercialization.
