Plug Power (NASDQ: PLUG) announced that it has successfully completed the deployment of 13 hydrogen stations in Europe over the past two years. The installations of these hydrogen refueling stations (HRS) will support a range of applications, benefiting the company’s European material handling customer base.

The HRS installations are in the commission phase.

Currently, all 13 of Plug’s European hydrogen stations are in the commissioning phase, however some are already operational. The remainder of those that are not, are slated be up and running at some point this summer. The stations have been deployed across the UK, Spain, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. They will support various material handling and mobility applications across these countries. Specifically, the hydrogen refueling stations will support Amazon, ASDA, Stef, Lidl, and other of Plug’s European material handling customer base. These stations will also serve the company’s own facilities and HYVIA locations, with the largest site expected to consume nearly half a ton of hydrogen daily. HYVIA is a joint venture between Plug and Renault. Its purpose is to build hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles.

Plug’s hydrogen stations are a turnkey innovation.

In a recent news release from Plug Power, the company’s CEO Andy Marsh said, “The rapid uptake of our turnkey hydrogen refueling stations demonstrates growing demand in the European market.” Marsh added that the milestone stressed the importance of the company’s experience with hydrogen stations in delivering H2 supply to their customers.

Plug is helping its customers to meet sustainability goals.

While the deployment of the 13 hydrogen stations in such a short amount of time is certainly impressive, what makes it truly notable is that Plug’s HRS solutions are supporting customers in their efforts to convert their material handling equipment from lead acid battery power to hydrogen fuel cell power. As sites use green hydrogen, in many cases, Plug customer’s achieve efficiency gains from the conversion while also meeting corporate sustainability goals at the same time.
