ITM Power technology to be used at hydrogen fuel station in California
September 17, 2013ITM Power to provide hydrogen fuel technology to Hydrogen Frontier
ITM Power, a leading developer of hydrogen fuel cells and related technologies, has announced that its U.S. division, called ITM Power Inc, has received a new order from Hydrogen Frontier, Inc. The order is for rapid response electrolyzer technology developed by ITM Power. This technology will be used at a hydrogen fuel station managed by South Korean automaker Hyundai. The station is located in Chino, California, and is one of the few hydrogen fuel stations in the state.
Hyundai fuel station could bolster California infrastructure
Hyundai is the first automaker to begin mass production of a hydrogen-powered vehicle and the company has plans to commercialize this vehicle within the next year. This is somewhat ambitious on Hyundai’s part due to the fact that a comprehensive hydrogen fuel infrastructure has yet to take form throughout most of the world. The automaker has been working to assist in the development of such an infrastructure in order to secure a successful future for its hydrogen-powered vehicles and clean transportation in general.
Station to generate 100kg of hydrogen fuel per day
The hydrogen fuel station was approved by California in April this year and is expected to begin operation at some point in early 2014. The technology provided by ITM Power will ensure that the station is able to provide hydrogen fuel in an efficient manner, as this fuel is to be generated on-site. The station will be able to produce approximately 100 kilograms of hydrogen fuel daily and can dispense this fuel at 350 and 700 bar pressures.
ITM Power works to break into new markets
ITM Power, which is based in the United Kingdom, has been working to expand to other markets around the world. The company has a strong standing in the fuel cell industry and is one f the few that has managed to find commercial success with its products. Currently, fuel cells have managed to become very popular in the auto industry, but these energy systems have been used for various industrial purposes over the past several years.
