Linde to provide clean hydrogen to Dow’s project in Canada
August 29, 2024The hydrogen will be supplied to Dow’s Fort Saskatchewan Path2Zero Project.
Linde (Nasdaq: LIN) has signed a long-term agreement with Dow that will see the Ireland-based global multinational chemicals giant supply clean hydrogen to Dow’s Fort Saskatchewan Path2Zero Project in Canada.
Linde to invest over $2 billion to produced hydrogen.
According to a recent new release from Linde, the company will invest over $2 billion to construct, own and operate a “world-scale integrated clean hydrogen and atmospheric gases facility”. This facility will be located in the Canadian province of Alberta.
The new complex will generate clean H2 as well as recover hydrogen contained in off-gasses from Dow’s ethylene cracker, using autothermal reforming along with Linde’s proprietary HISORP® carbon capture tech.
The largest clean hydrogen production facility in Canada.
Once it is completed in 2028, this new complex will not only be the largest of its kind in Alberta and in all of Canada, but also one of the largest in the world. Moreover, it will mark Linde’s largest single investment and its second new world scale clean H2 project.
In the first phase of its agreement with Dow, Linde will provide clean hydrogen, nitrogen, and additional services to support Dow’s net-zero emissions integrated ethylene cracker and derivatives stie, notes the release.
In addition to supplying H2 to Dow, Linde’s new complex will provide clean hydrogen to existing and new industrial customers keen to lower the carbon footprint of their operations. When all is said and done, it’s expected that Linde’s facility will capture CO2 emissions for sequestration of more than 2 million metric tons annually.
