Intelligent Energy fuel cells are being used to power Indian telecommunications towers
Intelligent Energy, a developer of hydrogen fuel cells based in the United Kingdom, has produced a new fuel cell system that has successfully provided power to mobile network towers in India. This represents a major milestone in the commercialization of fuel cells and further establishes their value in the telecommunications space. The fuel cell system was deployed through Intelligent Energy's subsidiary, Essential Energy India. The subsidiary is also providing power management services for those using this fuel cell system.Essential Energy manages 10,000 mobile network towers in India, all equipped with fuel cells
Essential Energy currently operates more than 10,000 mobile network towers, all of which are powered by hydrogen fuel cells. These mobile network towers represent some 100 megawatts of installed fuel cell capacity. Intelligent Energy plans to acquire a large market share of the mobile tower market, representing an opportunity to generate approximately $700 million every year that these towers are active and providing service.Fuel cells are becoming an economic energy solution for the telecommunications industry
Fuel cells are often seen as a more economical way to power telecommunications towers. These energy systems use hydrogen to generate electrical power in a relatively efficiently manner. Fuel cells are also quite durable, allowing them to generate electrical power even in the midst of a major storm or other natural disaster. This ensures that telecommunications towers have access to the energy they need to operate effectively. Indian telecommunications firms have been showing a great deal of favor for these energy systems in recent years because of their economic prospects.
