Ryze is supplying ZeroAvia with hydrogen fuel for flight testing in UK

The two companies recently entered a partnership.

Ryze, a supplier of clean hydrogen fuel has teamed up with ZeroAvia, a developer of zero-emission hydrogen-electric engines for commercial aircrafts. As part of the new deal, Ryze, which is known for providing heavy-duty vehicle and long-range fleet operators in the industrial and construction sectors with affordable and simple conversion to hydrogen, will supply hydrogen to ZeroAvia. This hydrogen will be used in an aircraft engine and flight testing at ZeroAvia’s UK base in Cirencester.

The partnership is another score for hydrogen mobility.

This deal between Ryze and ZeroAvia is another win for the growing hydrogen mobility sector. It’s further testament to how the demand for infrastructure is increasing within the sector. This, and other partnerships formed in the sector, are helping to ensure that there is regular supply of hydrogen fuel for fundamental, industrial, mobility and transport customers.

As for ZeroAvia and Ryze’s partnership specifically, ZeroAvia has signed a hydrogen fuel supply contract with Ryze. This will guarantee regular deliveries of hydrogen to ZeroAvia’s UK testing site at Cotswood Airport.

This regular supply will help the clean aviation company meet an increased demand for H2 that it needs to achieve the extensive ground and flight testing it has planned for its ZA600 powertrain. Rigorous testing is needed for the company’s engine to meet certified requirements for up to 20 seat aircraft.

Ryze’s innovative trailer fleet will be used to supply the hydrogen fuel.

ZeroAvia’s research and testing needs require flexible support, and Ryze can ensure maximum flexibility with its innovative tube trailer fleet. This fleet is the largest available in UK (at least in terms of capacity) and is equipped with various specifications and capabilities.

Access to affordable clean hydrogen is vital in order for ZeroAvia to reaches its goals to unlock zero-emission flight. According to the company’s Chief Business Officer, Sergey Kiselev, partnering with Ryze will help ZeroAvia advance their “testing and journey to certification. 

Commercial aviation emissions continue to rise.

ZeroAvia is working hard to clean up the commercial aviation industry, which contributes more and more greenhouse gas emissions each year. In 2023, over 6.7 million flights departed from airports across Europe. This resulted in a total of 164.85 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and is a 13% increase in CO2 emissions compared to 2022.
