DayOne Launches Singapore’s First Hydrogen-Powered Data Center Using Fuel Cell Technology
July 27, 2025DayOne Data Centers has officially kicked off construction on a brand-new 20MW data center in Jurong East, Singapore—and it’s not your typical facility. This groundbreaking project marks a regional first: a data center built around clean, cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cells. Slated to go live commercially in 2026, the facility will take advantage of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) technology for efficient, on-site hydrogen-powered energy generation.
Designed for the AI era, built for the future
Unlike conventional data centers, this one is built from the ground up to handle high-density, AI-driven workloads. It features an advanced hybrid data center cooling system designed to keep everything stable and efficient—even in Singapore’s intense tropical heat. This isn’t just about powering machines; it’s also about making that power sustainable and scalable.
Backed by smart energy and smarter partnerships
Recognized under Singapore’s DC-CFA pilot scheme, the project is charging ahead with the support of a 10-year renewable PPA from Sembcorp Power. They’re not going it alone either—DayOne has teamed up with the National University of Singapore (NUS) to push the envelope on R&D for energy-efficient cooling systems, especially those suited for hot and humid climates.
Scaling sustainable energy across Southeast Asia
A spin-off from China’s GDS International, DayOne has its sights set on more than just Singapore. With demand for digital infrastructure surging across Southeast Asia, the company is looking to take this clean, high-performance model regional. It’s a strong step forward in the push for industrial decarbonization and a solid example of how technology and sustainability can go hand in hand.
