Green Hydrogen Production Powers Beijing’s Fuel Cell Bus Fleet Expansion

On May 27, 2025, CHN Energy Guohua Energy Investment Co Ltd kicked off a major step forward in clean energy by launching green hydrogen deliveries from Hebei Province straight into Beijing. The goal? To power the city’s growing fleet of hydrogen-powered buses by using Sinopec’s fueling station network. They’re using alkaline water electrolysis to make the hydrogen — a cleaner method that turns water into fuel using electricity from renewable sources.

Cleaning Up the Capital’s Commute

This new hydrogen supply project is a big win for China’s ongoing push to improve urban air quality under its Clean Air Action Plan. It’s part of a larger movement to gradually replace diesel buses with clean alternatives that don’t pollute the air. CHN Energy, which operates under the massive China Energy Investment Corporation, is tapping into its strength in renewables to make this happen — and they’ve teamed up with Sinopec, which already has a growing hydrogen fueling network, with over 100 stations set up across the country.

Laying the Groundwork for a Hydrogen-Powered Future
