Middle East Investors Inject £200m into UK Waste-to-Hydrogen Production at Tilbury

Chinook Hydrogen snagged £200m from Middle East backers to launch a hydrogen-from-waste plant at Thames Freeport’s Tilbury Tax Site. It’s part of a £1bn hydrogen corridor for HGV refuelling and industrial decarbonization by 2028.

Process

We gasify waste into syngas, then refine it to 99.9% hydrogen—efficient hydrogen production.

Strategic Edge

Freeport perks and H2 Living Labs give the UK’s green hydrogen drive a boost.

Impacts

It’ll divert 300,000 tonnes of waste annually, create jobs and kickstart hydrogen infrastructure for sustainable energy.

Everything rides on steady policy and energy prices. By 2028, we’ll see if Tilbury is a hydrogen export hub or a mere industrial footnote.
