Top EU CEOs Call for Fast-Tracking Hydrogen Mobility to Safeguard Clean Tech Leadership
July 3, 2025More than 30 CEOs from top names in the hydrogen, automotive, and energy sectors came together to send a clear and urgent message to the European Commission: it’s time to take real, decisive action to boost hydrogen mobility across Europe. Their warning? Without stronger regulatory support and better infrastructure, Europe risks losing its edge in the race for clean technology and industrial innovation.
Europe’s falling behind in the hydrogen race
Right now, Europe is trailing behind global leaders like China, which has already rolled out over 28,000 hydrogen vehicles and built 400 fueling stations. Meanwhile, Europe is still far from hitting its own 2025 goal of 500 hydrogen refueling stations. Sure, projects like Paris’ hydrogen-powered taxi fleet are exciting and promising, but without broader support and coordination across the EU, scalability remains stuck in first gear.
Call for bold EU-wide action
The CEOs are urging the EU to roll out a unified, bloc-wide strategy to get hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on the road at scale. They want to see green hydrogen playing a major role alongside battery-electric solutions, helping power a more balanced, stable, and sustainable energy mix across the continent. If Europe wants to stay on track with its climate goals and stay competitive on the world stage, the message is loud and clear: act now—or get left behind.
