Andhra Pradesh Launches India’s Largest Green Hydrogen Valley with $120 Billion Vision

Andhra Pradesh is stepping into the spotlight with the launch of India’s largest Green Hydrogen Valley, officially rolled out from its capital, Amaravati. The big goal? To produce a whopping 1.5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by the year 2029. The man behind the move is Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who’s steering this ambitious piece of a massive ₹10 lakh crore (~$120 billion) clean energy investment push across the country.

Massive Investments Powering a Green Future

This bold vision is already attracting some serious backing. One of the headline deals is a ₹35,000 crore green hydrogen and clean ammonia plant set to come up in Machilipatnam, built by JKSH and Hynfra. Over in Krishnapatnam, Yamna (UK) is gearing up to pump ₹16,000 crore into an ammonia production facility. Together, these projects are laying the foundation for a new era of sustainable energy in the region.

Backing it all is the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP), which is helping drive the development of a sprawling ecosystem that includes 5 GW of electrolyser capacity. And it’s not just about the tech—this green energy wave is expected to power up the economy too, creating around 750,000 new green jobs.

Academic and Industry Minds Come Together

Pushing things further, SRM University-AP played host to the Green Hydrogen Summit 2025, bringing together brainpower from academia, industry and government to tackle challenges and share ideas. Andhra Pradesh’s efforts are closely aligned with India’s broader hydrogen mission, setting the stage for the state to emerge as a serious global player in hydrogen production.

Of course, pulling this off won’t come without its fair share of hurdles. From managing water resources to securing long-term financing, and staying ahead in a competitive global market—there’s plenty to figure out. But if Andhra Pradesh plays its cards right, it might just end up leading the charge in the world’s transition to a sustainable energy future.
