Hydrexia Singapore Pte Ltd and PT Samator have teamed up with a shared vision—to build out hydrogen purification, transport, and storage infrastructure in Indonesia. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding kicking off a partnership that merges Hydrexia’s cutting-edge hydrogen tech—like metal hydride storage and tube-trailer units—with Samator’s massive distribution presence across more than 70 locations in the country.

Pilot Project Launching Near Surabaya

The first testing ground for this strategic partnership will be just outside Surabaya, targeting mobile hydrogen solutions in areas that don’t have pipeline access. This pilot links directly to Indonesia’s push toward industrial decarbonization, especially in high-emission sectors such as steel and fertilizer. And the potential here is big—experts are predicting that hydrogen demand could soar to 18,000 tonnes annually by 2027.

Indonesia to Singapore: Exploring Export Potential

Looking beyond the domestic front, both companies are also exploring the possibility of exporting hydrogen to Singapore. If it goes ahead, that move could position Indonesia as a key regional player in the clean energy technologies space. It would also give a major lift to local industries aiming to modernize—and possibly draw in global investors hungry for sustainable energy solutions. It’s a bold step in ramping up the region’s hydrogen infrastructure and a clear signal that Southeast Asia is serious about the future of hydrogen production and hydrogen storage.
