MAN Expands Salzgitter Hub to Support Hydrogen Trucks and Modular DRIVETRAIN Systems

MAN Truck & Bus is stepping up its game in a big way—literally. The company just expanded its logistics hub in Salzgitter, Germany by a solid 30%, tacking on another 53,000 m². What’s all that space for? It’s part of MAN’s big push to gear up for a new era of trucking, supporting everything from next-gen hydrogen trucks and modular drive systems to the trusty PowerLion diesel engines—right in time for the 2026 EU emissions standards.

A logistics hub built for the future

Now spanning a massive 235,000 m², the site houses more than 220,000 components—including 12,000 dedicated to e-mobility and hydrogen fuel cells—all stored in cutting-edge, explosion-proof zones chilled down to a frosty -40°C. These aren’t just any shelves; they’re staging areas for serious change in the trucking world.

Hydrogen trucks, modular drive tech, and EU compliance

This expansion is more than just extra square footage—it’s key to MAN’s plan to roll out over 500 hydrogen-powered zero-emission trucks by 2026. It’s also a big piece of the puzzle for keeping up with EU rules that require spare parts support for vehicles over a 15-year span. And because MAN is part of the TRATON Group, this upgrade strengthens its ability to share tech like modular drivetrain systems across brands, including Scania and Navistar.

Fast, smart, and globally connected

At the heart of it all? The hub runs on SmartLog 5.0, an AI-powered inventory system that helps MAN guarantee global delivery of spare parts in under 48 hours. So whether it’s a diesel engine part or a component for a hydrogen fuel cell system, it gets where it needs to go fast—no matter where that is.

Salzgitter: From steel town to clean-tech hotspot

The hub’s location in Salzgitter isn’t just practical—it’s symbolic. Once a steel giant, the city is reinventing itself as a hub for industrial decarbonization. And with Europe’s hydrogen infrastructure growing fast, MAN’s bet on zero-emission technology puts it right in the driver’s seat for a cleaner, more connected logistics future.
