The refueling station project will later expand across Europe.

French companies, Akuo Energy, Atawey, JcDecaux and Galleries Lafayette, have teamed up to deploy 33 hydrogen refueling stations in urban and suburban regions of Paris as well as other French towns and cities. Once complete, their joint project, the Last Mile project, will expand across Europe.

The stations are expected to provide fuel for 400 hydrogen fuel vehicles.

The hydrogen refueling stations are an important part of expanding France’s hydrogen infrastructure. They will provide fuel for 400 vehicles powered by hydrogen for companies Galeries Lafayette, JCDecaux, and others supporting the zero-emission urban mobility field.

Akuo Energy, a leading French IPP in renewable energy, is the project coordinator, and together with the help of its partners, Atawey, a French manufacturer of decentralized hydrogen fuel stations, and JCDecaux and Galeries Lafayette, they hope to make the Last Mile project’s purpose a reality: to enable the wide-scale deployment of a network of green, compact and decentralized hydrogen refueling station.

By providing fuel to more than 400 hydrogen-powered vehicles, this project will prevent 1,182 tons of carbon emissions (CO2) to be avoided each year. Over a 15-year project life cycle, the estimated reduction in CO2 emission will be nearly 35,000 tons.

The hydrogen refueling stations will help companies switch their vehicle fleets to alternative fuel transportation.

For instance, thanks to the Last Mile project, JCDecaux, the world’s number one outdoor advertising and in street furniture company (with a presence in over 80 countries), is transitioning its fleet to hydrogen vehicles.

As a partner of the project, the company hopes to make zero-emission mobility possible for its multi-profession agents. It will also provide Last Mile with its expertise in design and in the deployment of service-oriented furniture in urban areas.

“Through Last Mile, JCDecaux is continuing to implement its innovation strategy that aims to facilitate sustainable urban mobility,” said Jean-Charles Decaux, Chairman of the Executive Board and Co-CEO of JCDecaux in a company press release.

Also commenting on the hydrogen refueling project, Eric Scotto, Chairman and Co-founder of Akuo Energy said that hydrogen refuelling station - hydrogen fuel station in Frankfurt“This partnership is another milestone for Akuo Energy, whose aim is to make renewable energy available to all. This operation will allow Akuo and its partners to give local regions a certain level of autonomy over mobility.”
