September 14, 2018Hyundai Motor teases first look at its new fuel cell electric truck.
The first look at the new Hyundai fuel cell electric truck has been revealed by the South Korean multinational automotive manufacturer. The new truck features a fuel cell powertrain and is the next vehicle the company is launching that will be equipped with fuel cell technology.
The truck has been designed with a spoiler and side protector.
Based on the image and brief details released by the automotive company, the Hyundai fuel cell electric truck features a simple and clean design. It is also equipped with a side protector and spoiler, making it aerodynamically efficient.
Furthermore, the truck’s front grille symbolizes hydrogen via geometric shapes, which gives the vehicle a powerful and unique look, according to Hyundai. The company also wanted to make sure the truck gives off an eco-friendly look and has selected for it an “iconic blue color application and a bold side body graphic on the container, which visualizes its dynamic character,” to achieve this.
The fuel cell electric truck’s distinct design helps to set it apart from other Hyundai commercial vehicle line-ups according to Hyundai.
The Hyundai fuel cell electric truck specifications will be revealed at an upcoming event in Germany.
Hyundai will reportedly be revealing the vehicle’s specifications during the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018, which is taking place later this month in Hanover, Germany. At the event, the company will also be announcing its future plans for introducing its fuel cell electric truck in the European eco-friendly commercial vehicle market next year.
Additionally, Hyundai has been moving forward with other types of technologies beyond fuel cells. Recently, the company completed South Korea’s first domestic highway journey with its Xcient truck, an autonomously navigated semi-trailer truck. The truck drove about 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) on the highway between Uiwang and Incheon and carried large semi-trailer simulating cargo transportation. The truck showcased the company’s innovative technological advancement in future mobility.
In terms of fuel cell technology, Hyundai has worked hard to establish its leadership in this tech and has previously released impressive fuel cell vehicles, including the ix35 Fuel Cell and the NEXO. The new Hyundai fuel cell electric truck, which is slated for a 2019 release, is yet another milestone for the company.
